January Nature in Curaçao

January is an excellent time to discover Curaçao beyond its colourful capital. The island is warm, generally dry and pleasantly breezy, making it comfortable for walking, wildlife watching and exploring the coast. Christoffel National Park

Christoffel National Park is one of the best places to appreciate the island’s wild side. Flamingos and Salt Pans

For a memorable wildlife outing, visit the salt pans around Jan Kok or Sint Willibrordus. Greater flamingos often gather in the shallow water, feeding and resting against a backdrop of white salt and dry hills. They are best viewed from a respectful distance, so binoculars are useful.

The salt pans also attract other birds, particularly when conditions are calm. Go in the cooler part of the day and allow time to watch quietly. The simple landscape, bright light and flashes of pink make this one of Curaçao’s most enjoyable nature experiences.
