Away from the beaches, Curacao has a surprisingly rugged landscape. Visit Christoffel National Park for walking trails, native plants and wide views across the island. Early morning is the best time for a hike, especially if you plan to climb Mount Christoffel, the island’s highest point.

You can also explore sea caves, visit the distinctive desert-like scenery around the north coast or take a boat trip to Klein Curacao. This uninhabited island has a long sandy beach, excellent snorkelling and a picturesque lighthouse. Hiring a car is useful if you want to discover Curacao at your own pace, as many of the best beaches and viewpoints are spread across the island.
