Discover the Bahamas

The Bahamas is an easy-going island destination where clear turquoise water, soft white beaches and warm Caribbean sunshine set the scene for a memorable holiday. Made up of more than 700 islands and cays, it offers plenty of choice, from lively Nassau to quiet stretches of sand where the only footprints may be your own.

Whether you want a relaxing beach break, exciting water sports or a taste of local island life, a holiday in the Bahamas is wonderfully straightforward. English is widely spoken, the atmosphere is welcoming and the pace quickly encourages you to slow down and enjoy your surroundings.

Nassau and Paradise Island

Nassau, on New Providence Island, is the Bahamas’ lively capital and a good base for exploring. Wander through the historic centre to see pastel-coloured buildings, browse the stalls at the Straw Market and visit the impressive Queen’s Staircase, carved from limestone. Cafés, restaurants and shops add plenty of energy during the day.

Across the bridge, Paradise Island is known for its beautiful beaches, large resorts and excellent facilities. It suits travellers who enjoy having restaurants, pools, entertainment and activities close at hand, while Nassau remains nearby whenever you fancy some history or local flavour.

Life Beneath the Water

The sea around the Bahamas is one of its greatest attractions. Calm, transparent water makes it ideal for swimming and snorkelling, with coral reefs, colourful fish and fascinating rock formations close to shore in many areas. Boat trips can take you to quieter cays and hidden beaches for an unhurried day on the water.

There are options for more experienced divers too, including dramatic walls, wrecks and underwater caves. Even if you prefer to stay dry, a glass-bottom boat trip or dolphin encounter provides an enjoyable way to appreciate the rich marine life.

Beaches and Island Time

Grand Bahama, home to Freeport, offers a relaxed alternative to Nassau, with long beaches, nature reserves and a quieter feel. It is well suited to couples and families looking for space to unwind, while smaller islands such as Eleuthera and Exuma provide a more peaceful escape and wonderfully scenic coastal views.

Days can be as active or restful as you like. Take a kayak through calm waters, join a fishing trip, explore a nature trail or simply find a shaded spot beside the sea. In the evening, enjoy fresh seafood, conch salad and a cool drink while the sun sets over the water.

Planning Your Holiday

The Bahamas can be visited throughout the year, although the most popular months are generally from December to April, when the weather is pleasantly warm and dry. Summer is hotter and more humid, but it can bring good-value holidays and fewer visitors. Always check current travel advice and seasonal weather conditions before booking.

Choose Nassau or Paradise Island for convenience and a wide range of activities, Grand Bahama for a laid-back resort break, or one of the quieter islands for a more independent escape. With beautiful beaches, friendly communities and some of the Caribbean’s clearest water, the Bahamas makes it easy to create the kind of holiday you will remember long after you return home.
