Sea, Sand and Reefs

The waters around Turks and Caicos are remarkably clear, making the islands a natural choice for snorkelling and diving holidays. Coral reefs shelter colourful fish, rays and turtles, while boat trips can take you to quiet cays and uncrowded swimming spots. The calm conditions are also well suited to kayaking, paddleboarding and sailing.

From January to April, whale-watching excursions may offer the chance to see humpback whales passing through nearby waters. On land, there are quieter beaches to explore, including Leeward Beach and Taylor Bay, where the water is often exceptionally shallow. These peaceful corners are ideal when you want to escape the busier parts of the island for a few hours.

Island Flavours

Food is an important part of the Turks and Caicos experience. Fresh seafood appears on menus across the islands, with conch being a local speciality served in salads, fritters and hearty dishes. You will also find grilled fish, lobster when in season and Caribbean favourites influenced by the islands’ diverse history.

Providenciales has plenty of relaxed beachfront restaurants, smart dining rooms and informal places serving lunch by the water. Cocktails are easy to find too, from classic rum drinks to refreshing fruit-based blends. For a more local feel, look out for casual eateries and food stalls where the pace is unhurried and the welcome is warm.

Planning Your Stay

Most visitors choose a hotel, apartment or all-inclusive resort on Providenciales, close to Grace Bay and its collection of shops and restaurants. Grand Turk offers a quieter and more historic atmosphere, with colourful buildings, excellent diving and a slower pace. Salt Cay is even more secluded and suits travellers looking for simple island life and plenty of space.

The islands are generally warm throughout the year, with the driest and most popular period running from December to April. Driving is on the left, and the US dollar is used, which makes everyday travel straightforward for British visitors. With its beautiful beaches, clear water and relaxed character, Turks and Caicos is a Caribbean destination that feels both special and refreshingly easy to enjoy.
