Rainforest Adventures

January is an excellent time to discover Grenada’s natural side. The island is warm, generally sunny and comfortably breezy, making it ideal for exploring beyond the beach. Start in the Grand Etang National Park, where winding roads climb into the cool, green highlands and the scenery changes from coastal palms to thick rainforest.

Well-marked trails lead through giant trees, fern-filled gullies and bright tropical plants. Keep your eyes open for Mona monkeys, colourful birds and small lizards moving through the undergrowth. Grenada’s waterfalls are among its most enjoyable natural attractions, particularly when the January sunshine makes a cool swim welcome. Concord Falls, tucked into the island’s interior, offers a rewarding combination of forest scenery and refreshing water. The short walk to the falls is part of the experience, with birdsong, rushing streams and dense vegetation along the route.

Annandale Falls is easier to reach and has a dramatic setting among hanging plants and forest-covered slopes. You can watch local divers make an impressive leap into the pool or simply sit beside the water and take in the atmosphere. Wear sturdy footwear for muddy sections and bring a towel, as even a gentle walk can end with an irresistible dip.

Coastal Nature

Grenada’s nature holidays are not limited to the hills. The coastline is full of sheltered bays, rocky coves and clear water where reef fish can be seen close to shore. A boat trip around the southern coast or to the nearby Molinière Underwater Sculpture Park combines sea views with an unusual glimpse of art beneath the waves.

January is also a good month for kayaking and paddleboarding, especially in calm bays such as True Blue and Lance Aux Epines. Early mornings are often particularly peaceful, with smooth water and excellent light for photographs. Pack lightweight clothing, walking shoes, swimwear and a light waterproof jacket for rainforest showers. The highlands can feel cooler than the coast, while trails may be slippery after rain, so practical clothing will make your excursions more comfortable. January is a popular period to visit, so book guided walks and boat trips ahead where possible.

Choose a base near St George’s for easy access to restaurants, beaches and the island’s southern attractions, or stay closer to the west coast for a quieter pace.
