The northern part of Martinique is ideal for walking. Conditions can still be damp at altitude, so sturdy footwear and a light waterproof jacket are useful, even in January.

For a less demanding outing, explore the trails near the Jardin de Balata. Always keep a respectful distance from wildlife and avoid touching coral or marine animals.

On the south coast, gentle bays and white-sand beaches are well suited to a slower day outdoors. The Presqu’île de la Caravelle, on the Atlantic side, provides a different experience, with coastal paths, dry forest and wide ocean views. Bring plenty of water, sun protection and sensible shoes, as some sections are exposed.
