Start With Mount Pelée
February is an excellent time to explore Martinique, with warm, generally settled weather and clear light that makes photographs stand out. For a dramatic opening to your Instagram feed, head towards Mount Pelée in the north of the island. The volcanic landscape is thick with rainforest, mist and rich green vegetation, offering a striking contrast to the bright beaches found elsewhere.
Views change quickly as you travel through the hills, so keep your camera ready on winding roads near Le Morne-Rouge and Saint-Pierre. The former capital, Saint-Pierre, adds history to the scenery, with the dark volcanic slopes rising behind its waterfront. Early morning is especially rewarding, when the air is cooler and the soft light gives the town and mountain a calm, atmospheric feel.
