For an active day out, the Mount Liamuiga hike is one of the best things to do in Saint Kitts. The trail leads through dense rainforest filled with tall trees, vines and broad leaves, while birdsong and the sound of insects create a real sense of being away from it all.

Saint Kitts is well known for its lively population of green vervet monkeys. You may see them in forested areas and around former sugar plantations, although they are wild animals and should be watched from a respectful distance.

Birdwatchers can look for pelicans, frigatebirds and herons along the coast, as well as smaller tropical species inland. Nevis also has excellent opportunities for nature spotting, particularly around the slopes of Nevis Peak and the island’s quieter roads.

Nature And Heritage

On Saint Kitts, nature and history often share the same view. The Scenic Railway follows parts of the old sugar-cane route, passing through valleys, villages and countryside where stone estate buildings stand among palms and tropical plants.

Former plantations such as Romney Manor provide another enjoyable stop. The gardens are filled with colourful plants and shade, and the site offers a chance to learn about the island’s past while taking a relaxed break from the beach.

Coastal Escapes

After a walk, the coast is the perfect place to slow down. Nevis has a particularly peaceful feel, with uncrowded beaches, clear water and wide views across to Saint Kitts. Swimming, snorkelling and leisurely beach walks are all easy to fit into a nature-focused holiday.
