Birdwatching in Paradise
Saint Martin and Sint Maarten may be famous for beaches, food and lively resorts, but this compact Caribbean island is also a rewarding destination for birdwatching holidays. Between the French and Dutch sides, you can explore salt ponds, mangroves, dry hillsides and sheltered bays, often without travelling far from your accommodation.
The island’s warm climate makes outdoor exploring enjoyable throughout much of the year. Take an early morning walk, when the air is cooler and birds are most active, then spend the afternoon swimming or enjoying a long lunch by the sea. A pair of binoculars, comfortable shoes and a little patience are usually all you need to get started.
