Saint Martin Holidays

Caribbean Holidays, Saint Martin Holidays, Aerial view of Saint Martin and Sint Maarten coastline, turquoise Caribbean water, sandy beaches and green hills

Two Islands, One Trip

A holiday in Saint Martin and Sint Maarten gives you two distinct Caribbean experiences on one easy-to-explore island. The northern side, Saint-Martin, is French in character, with relaxed cafés, elegant restaurants and quiet coves. Across the border, Sint Maarten brings a lively Dutch atmosphere, colourful beach bars and a busy marina.

There is no formal border to slow you down, so you can enjoy both sides in a single day. Start with a leisurely French breakfast, spend the afternoon swimming in a sheltered bay, then cross to the Dutch side for sunset drinks and dinner. It is a simple way to add variety to a Caribbean beach holiday.

French Saint Martin

Saint Martin is ideal if you enjoy beautiful beaches with a more laid-back feel. Orient Bay is the island’s best-known stretch of sand, offering clear water, watersports and a choice of restaurants close to the beach. For a quieter swim, try Anse Marcel or Grand Case, where the setting feels more peaceful and local.

Food is a major part of the French side’s appeal. Grand Case is well known for its excellent restaurants, from casual beach kitchens to more polished dining rooms serving fresh seafood and Creole favourites. Take your time over lunch, order something cold to drink and let the day unfold at its own pace.

Dutch Sint Maarten

Sint Maarten has a more energetic holiday atmosphere, particularly around Philipsburg and the southern coast. Philipsburg’s long beach sits beside a lively promenade, where you can browse shops, enjoy a meal or watch cruise ships arriving in the bay. Maho Beach is another popular stop, famous for its views of aircraft landing close to the sand.

The Dutch side is also a good base for sailing, nightlife and day trips. Simpson Bay has a wide choice of restaurants and bars, while the marina is a starting point for boat excursions around the island. Whether you prefer an evening of music or a quiet meal beside the water, there is plenty of choice.

Island Adventures

One of the easiest ways to add adventure to your multi-country trip is to take a short boat ride to Pinel Island. Its calm, shallow water is excellent for swimming and snorkelling, and the island has a handful of relaxed places to eat. Pack sun cream, a towel and your camera, then settle in for an easy day away from the main island.

You can also explore the coastline by catamaran, try paddleboarding in a sheltered bay or hike to viewpoints such as Pic Paradis. Hiring a car makes it simple to visit different beaches, although allow extra time for winding roads and busy traffic near Philipsburg.

Planning Your Holiday

Saint Martin and Sint Maarten work well for couples, families and groups of friends because the island offers both restful beach time and plenty to do. A week gives you enough time to explore both sides without rushing, while a longer stay lets you add boat trips and leisurely days by the pool.

Choose accommodation near the beaches or restaurants that best match your plans, and check entry requirements before travelling. With French and Dutch influences, excellent food, attractive beaches and easy island-hopping, this two-country Caribbean holiday offers memorable variety in a compact destination.
