February Walking Holidays

Why Walk Trinidad in February?

February is one of the best months for a walking holiday in Trinidad and Tobago. The weather is generally warm, bright and comfortably drier than later in the year, making it easier to spend a full day outdoors. You can enjoy green landscapes, lively villages and coastal views without feeling rushed by heavy rain.

Trinidad is the larger and more varied island, with rainforest, hills, wetlands and dramatic waterfalls all within reach of a good base. Tobago offers a slower pace, scenic coastal paths and the wonderful Main Ridge Forest Reserve. Together, the islands make it easy to combine active days with time on the beach.

Rainforest Trails and Wildlife

Walking in Trinidad’s Northern Range gives you a real sense of the island’s wild side. Trails around the Asa Wright area pass through dense forest alive with birds, butterflies and the occasional glimpse of a howler monkey. Local guides can point out colourful plants and wildlife that you might otherwise walk straight past.

In Tobago, the Main Ridge Forest Reserve is a rewarding choice for walkers who enjoy peaceful paths and natural surroundings. The trails are shaded, often gently challenging and filled with birdsong. February’s favourable conditions are ideal for taking your time, stopping for photographs and enjoying the coolness of the forest.

Coastal Walks and Views

Not every walking day needs to be strenuous. Tobago has attractive coastal routes where the path leads past small bays, fishing villages and viewpoints over clear Caribbean water. A walk near Charlotteville or along the coast around Speyside can be combined with a relaxed lunch and a swim.

Trinidad also has memorable outdoor scenery, particularly around the Chaguaramas peninsula. Here, forested hills meet the sea, and several routes offer wide views across the Gulf of Paria. Start early, carry water and allow time to enjoy the changing light over the coastline.

Planning Your Walking Holiday

February is a popular time to visit, so it is sensible to book accommodation and guided walks in advance. Choose lightweight clothing, sturdy shoes, sun protection and a small waterproof layer for unexpected showers. Even in the drier season, tropical weather can change quickly.

Walking with a local guide is especially useful on rainforest trails, both for safety and for a deeper understanding of the landscape. Allow rest days for beaches, local food and exploring the islands’ distinctive culture. With a balance of guided hikes and easy independent walks, a February holiday in Trinidad and Tobago can be active, sociable and wonderfully varied.
