Martinique beach holidays are all about variety. This French Caribbean island has soft sandy bays, lively seaside resorts and quiet coves where the only sounds may be the gentle sea and rustling palms. For the widest choice of beaches and easy access to restaurants, Sainte-Anne, Trois-Îlets and Le Diamant are excellent bases. Hiring a car is useful if you want to explore different parts of the island, although organised trips and local taxis can also help you see the highlights.

Martinique enjoys a warm climate throughout the year, with the driest period generally running from December to May. Pack light clothing, reef-friendly sun cream, comfortable shoes and something smart-casual for evenings.
