Volcanic Views
Montserrat is one of the Caribbean’s most distinctive islands, and its volcanic landscape gives photographers plenty to work with. The best images often combine the island’s rich green hills with the deep blue sea, creating a scene that feels both peaceful and dramatic.
Head towards the south of the island for views of Soufrière Hills volcano and the exclusion zone. The volcano is quiet from some angles, but its ash-covered slopes and abandoned communities tell a powerful story. Use a local guide where required, as access arrangements can change and safety comes first.
For a wider panorama, look for elevated viewpoints along the island’s roads and visitor routes. Early morning usually offers softer light and clearer conditions, while late afternoon can add warm colour to the hills. A phone with a wide-angle setting is ideal for capturing the scale of the landscape.
