Cuba Diving February

Why Dive Cuba in February?

February is an excellent time for a Cuba scuba diving holiday. The dry season is well established, bringing plenty of sunshine, low rainfall and generally comfortable temperatures both above and below the surface. Sea conditions are often calm, making it easier to enjoy boat trips and longer underwater excursions.

Water temperatures are usually warm enough for a comfortable dive in a lightweight wetsuit, while visibility can be impressive. Beneath the waves, you may spot clouds of colourful reef fish, graceful rays, curious sea turtles and the occasional reef shark. It is an inviting month for experienced divers, and a rewarding time for beginners taking their first lessons in the Caribbean.

Marine Life and Reefs

Cuba’s underwater scenery is wonderfully varied. Coral gardens, rocky walls, sandy seabeds and sheltered coves create habitats for a wide range of marine life. Depending on where you dive, you could see angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda and moray eels moving through the reef.

February can also bring memorable encounters with larger species. Look out for turtles grazing near the coral, eagle rays gliding across the sand and schools of fish changing direction in perfect unison. Many dive sites are close to shore or a short boat ride away, so you can spend more time in the water and less time travelling between locations.

Where to Dive

Varadero is a popular choice for combining diving with an easy beach holiday. Its clear water, accessible reefs and established dive centres suit a range of experience levels. You can spend the morning exploring underwater and have the afternoon free for the beach, a relaxed lunch or a stroll along the resort.

For a quieter experience, consider destinations such as Guardalavaca or the Bay of Pigs. These areas are known for attractive reefs, interesting drop-offs and a more peaceful atmosphere. Cayo Largo is another appealing option, particularly if you want a laid-back island setting with bright water and excellent opportunities for reef diving.

Planning Your February Trip

Book your dive centre and key excursions before travelling, especially if your holiday falls during a busy school-break period. Reputable operators will provide equipment, safety briefings and guidance suited to local conditions. If you have not dived recently, a refresher session is a sensible way to rebuild confidence.

Pack reef-friendly sun cream, a hat, sunglasses and a light cover-up for time on the boat. Bring proof of certification and details of your recent dives if you are qualified. With warm weather, inviting seas and Cuba’s distinctive island character, February offers a superb opportunity to enjoy a scuba diving holiday that feels both adventurous and wonderfully relaxed.
