Cuba Diving March

Why Dive Cuba in March?

March is an excellent month for a Cuba scuba diving holiday. The dry season is well established, bringing plenty of sunshine, warm temperatures and generally comfortable conditions for days on the water. It is a particularly appealing time to escape the cooler weather in the United Kingdom and enjoy Cuba’s relaxed Caribbean atmosphere.

Sea temperatures are usually pleasant enough for extended dives, while visibility can be impressive around many of the island’s best sites. Calm or moderate seas often make boat trips enjoyable, and the clear water gives you a good chance of spotting colourful reef fish, rays and other marine life. Whether you are a confident diver or planning your first trip beneath the waves, March offers a reliable balance of weather and underwater conditions.

Cuban Coral Reefs

Cuba’s reefs are known for their healthy appearance and variety of marine life. Around popular diving areas, you may swim past branching corals, sea fans and rocky formations where shoals of tropical fish gather. Look carefully and you could see trumpetfish, barracuda, moray eels and graceful eagle rays moving through the blue.

The underwater scenery changes from one site to the next. Some dives follow shallow reef gardens that are ideal for relaxed exploration, while others lead to drop-offs, caves and dramatic walls. March’s good visibility makes it easier to appreciate the detail in the reef, so remember to slow down and look into crevices rather than simply concentrating on larger animals.

Where to Go Diving

Varadero is a convenient choice for combining diving with beaches, restaurants and easy resort facilities. Its nearby sites include reefs and wrecks, giving visitors a mixture of underwater experiences without lengthy transfers. It is well suited to couples, families and newer divers who want a straightforward introduction to Cuba’s marine life.

For a more remote feel, consider the Jardines de la Reina, often described as one of the Caribbean’s outstanding diving areas. Liveaboard trips provide access to quieter reefs where larger species may be encountered. The Bay of Pigs and areas around Isla de la Juventud are also worth considering, particularly for travellers who enjoy clear water, walls and a stronger sense of adventure.

Planning Your Dive Holiday

Book with a reputable, professionally run dive centre and check what is included before travelling. Equipment hire, boat trips, diving insurance and certification requirements can vary, so it is sensible to confirm the details in advance. If you have not dived recently, a refresher session can help you feel comfortable and make the most of your first outing.

Allow time between your final dive and your flight, and pack reef-safe sun cream, a rash vest and a light cover-up for surface intervals. Away from the water, leave room for Cuba’s historic towns, music and excellent local food. A March scuba diving holiday can therefore offer much more than memorable dives: it is a chance to experience the warmth, character and easy-going pace of the island as well.
