Cuba Beach Holidays

September on Cuba’s beaches

A Cuba beach holiday in September is ideal if you like warm seas, quieter resorts and a more relaxed pace. The island’s famous coastline is still wonderfully inviting, with soft sand, clear Caribbean water and plenty of sunshine between occasional tropical showers.

Varadero is the obvious choice for an easy beach escape, stretching along a long peninsula of pale sand and calm water. You can spend mornings swimming or snorkelling, then settle beneath a palm tree with a cool drink while the gentle trade winds take the edge off the heat.

Warm water and water sports

Sea temperatures in September are wonderfully warm, making this a great month for swimming and watersports. Calm bays are suitable for beginners, while organised trips can take you further offshore for snorkelling, diving or a day on a catamaran.

Cayo Coco and Cayo Guillermo are particularly appealing for clear water and abundant marine life. Look out for bright fish around the reefs, or simply enjoy the feeling of floating in warm, transparent water with the beach close by.

Beyond the resort

September is also a good time to add a little Cuban culture to your beach holiday. Havana offers a fascinating contrast, with pastel colonial buildings, lively music and classic cars filling the streets around Habana Vieja.

Closer to the coast, you can visit local markets, enjoy fresh seafood or take a countryside excursion through sugar-growing regions. Cuban hospitality is naturally warm, and a conversation over coffee or rum often becomes one of the memorable moments of the trip.

Planning your September holiday

September falls within Cuba’s wetter season, so short heavy showers are possible. They often pass quickly, leaving the air fresh and the beaches bright again, although you should keep an eye on weather forecasts because the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June to November.

Travel light with cool clothing, high-factor sun cream and a light waterproof layer. Choose a flexible itinerary, and you can make the most of sunny beach days as well as the island’s music, food and welcoming atmosphere. For warm seas and a quieter Caribbean break, Cuba in September is a compelling choice.
