March Scuba Diving

Why Dive in March?

March is an excellent month for a Caribbean scuba diving holiday. The dry season is well established across many islands, bringing warm sunshine, comfortable temperatures and generally settled seas. Underwater, visibility can be impressive, making it easier to appreciate coral gardens, reef fish and dramatic drop-offs.

It is also a good time to escape the changing weather at home. Days are warm without feeling overwhelmingly humid, while the sea remains inviting for relaxed shore dives, boat trips and snorkelling between excursions. Whether you are a newly qualified diver or an experienced underwater explorer, March offers plenty of choice.

What You Could See

Caribbean reefs are full of life, and every dive brings something different. Look out for parrotfish grazing over coral, graceful rays passing across the sand and curious reef fish sheltering in rocky crevices. Turtles are regularly spotted in several diving areas, especially around seagrass beds and quiet reef edges.

Depending on where you travel, you may also find wrecks, underwater pinnacles and walls that descend into deep blue water. Calm conditions in March can make it a particularly enjoyable time for photography, as sunlight reaches the reef and colours stand out clearly.

Choosing Your Island

Every Caribbean destination has its own diving character. Barbados is known for accessible reefs and wrecks, while the Cayman Islands offer excellent visibility, walls and reliable marine life. Grenada is a favourite for wreck enthusiasts, with intriguing sites suitable for different experience levels.

For a quieter feel, consider smaller islands where dive centres can offer personal service and unhurried boat trips. If you want to combine diving with lively evenings, restaurants and plenty of excursions, larger resorts may suit you better. A good travel agent can match the island, hotel and dive centre to your experience and interests.

Planning Your Diving Holiday

Pack a rash vest or light wetsuit, reef-safe sun protection and a waterproof camera if you have one. Check that your diving qualification and logbook are up to date, and tell the dive operator about your experience before booking trips. Most centres provide tanks and weights, but you may prefer to bring your own mask, computer or other familiar equipment.

Allow time between flying and diving, and avoid scheduling demanding dives immediately before your return journey. With a little planning, March can give you warm water, rewarding dive sites and plenty of time to enjoy the beaches above the surface. It is a relaxed, memorable way to discover the Caribbean.
