Bonaire’s Colourful Coast

November is a brilliant time to explore Bonaire with your camera or phone. The island’s dry, sunny landscapes contrast beautifully with clear turquoise water, making almost every stop feel ready for Instagram. Start around Kralendijk, where pastel buildings, brightly painted boats and the waterfront create an easy-going Caribbean scene.

For a classic Bonaire photograph, head towards the southern salt flats. The white mounds, shallow pink-tinted water and old slave huts give the landscape a distinctive look, especially when the sunlight is low. Keep an eye out for flamingos too; they are one of the island’s most memorable subjects and are best photographed from a respectful distance.

Underwater Bonaire

Bonaire is famous for shore diving and snorkelling, so some of its best photo opportunities are below the surface. Calm bays such as Klein Bonaire offer wonderfully clear water, where coral, sea fans and tropical fish can add colour to your holiday photographs. Even a simple waterproof phone case can capture memorable images in the bright November sunshine.

Take care not to touch coral or chase marine life, and check local advice before entering the water. A little patience usually produces better photographs than swimming after a fish. Early morning is often especially rewarding, with softer light and fewer people around popular sites.

Sint Eustatius Views

Sint Eustatius, often called Statia, has a wonderfully unhurried character and plenty of viewpoints for striking photographs. Climb The Quill, the island’s extinct volcano, for changing views through green forest and across the sea. The walk can be warm, so start early, carry water and wear sturdy footwear.

Down by Oranjestad, historic stone ruins and old fortifications sit beside the Caribbean. Fort Oranje is particularly atmospheric around sunset, when the fading light reaches across the harbour and the sea turns deep blue. Statia’s quieter feel also means you can often take your time rather than waiting for a crowd-free moment.

Saba’s Mountain Magic

Saba is small, steep and remarkably photogenic. The road winds through dramatic scenery, while The Bottom and Windwardside provide charming views of white cottages, red roofs and green hillsides. Cloud often gathers around Mount Scenery, creating a changing backdrop that makes each photograph look different.

For the best results, explore in the morning before the strongest heat arrives. The island’s trails reveal dense vegetation, sea views and quiet corners that suit travellers who enjoy natural, less crowded images. In November, brief showers are possible, so pack a light waterproof layer and protect your camera gear.

Plan Your November Shots

The BES islands each offer a different style of holiday photography: Bonaire brings reefs and salt flats, Statia combines history with volcano views, and Saba delivers mountains and small-island charm. Give yourself time to enjoy the places rather than rushing from one viewpoint to another. The most engaging photographs often come from ordinary moments, such as a quiet harbour or a local meal.

Bring spare batteries, a sun hat and plenty of water, and always ask before photographing people. With warm weather, varied scenery and generally relaxed surroundings, November is an excellent month to discover the islands and return home with a gallery full of distinctive Caribbean memories.
