Bonaire’s Colourful Coast

October is a brilliant time to explore Bonaire with your camera or phone. The island’s relaxed capital, Kralendijk, is packed with easy Instagram hotspots, from bright waterfront buildings to palm-fringed views across the Caribbean Sea. Wander along Kaya J.N. Craane and you will find pastel walls, small cafés and fishing boats that make natural backgrounds for holiday photos.

For a more dramatic image, head towards the southern coast. A short boat trip from Bonaire takes you to Klein Bonaire, a small uninhabited island with wonderfully clear water and soft white sand. The beach is ideal for relaxed photographs, especially in the morning when the light is bright but not too harsh. Bring a waterproof phone case if you want to capture the colours beneath the surface.

October can bring warm, breezy weather, so the sea often looks beautifully textured in photographs. Snorkellers may spot colourful fish and coral close to shore, making Klein Bonaire one of the best places in the BES islands for underwater content. Remember to pack water, sun protection and anything else you need, as there are very few facilities on the island.

Statia’s Historic Scenes

Sint Eustatius, often known as Statia, offers a different kind of Instagram experience. At Fort Oranje, old stone walls frame wide views over the sea and neighbouring islands. The site is especially atmospheric around sunrise or late afternoon, when the warm light picks out the fort’s historic details.

Further inland, the slopes of The Quill provide lush scenery and a chance to photograph Statia’s volcanic landscape. Trails can be uneven, so sensible footwear is important. On a clear October day, the views from higher trails can be remarkable, stretching across the Caribbean and sometimes towards neighbouring islands. Conditions can change quickly on the mountain, so check the weather before setting out and allow plenty of time. Plan Your October Photos

October is outside the busiest winter season, which means you may find quieter viewpoints and a more unhurried atmosphere across Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba. The days are generally warm, but tropical showers are possible, often passing quickly. A small dry bag, lens cloth and portable charger are useful additions to your day bag.

Most importantly, take time to enjoy the islands away from the screen. Ask before photographing local people, follow marked paths and avoid touching coral or wildlife. The best Caribbean holiday memories are often the moments between photographs, when you simply stop and take in the sea, mountains and easy island pace.
