Curaçao Holidays

Discover Curaçao

Curaçao is one of the Caribbean’s most distinctive holiday destinations, combining beautiful beaches, lively culture and a surprisingly varied landscape. The island sits just off the coast of Venezuela, outside the main hurricane belt, so it is a reliable choice for warm-weather breaks throughout much of the year.

Its capital, Willemstad, is instantly recognisable for its colourful waterfront buildings and lively harbour. Beyond the city, you will find quiet coves, dry hills dotted with cacti and clear water that makes the island especially appealing for swimming, snorkelling and diving.

Beaches and Swimming

Curaçao’s beaches are often smaller and more sheltered than those on some other Caribbean islands, which is part of their charm. Playa Kenepa Grandi is a popular choice, with soft sand and bright turquoise water, while nearby Playa Kenepa Chiki feels more intimate and peaceful.

For an easy beach day close to Willemstad, Mambo Beach offers calm swimming, restaurants, shops and places to hire equipment. Cas Abao is another favourite, with clear shallows, good facilities and plenty of space to settle in with a book. Arriving early is a good idea at the most popular spots, particularly during busy periods.

Underwater Adventures

The sea around Curaçao is a major attraction for visitors. Warm, clear water and flourishing coral reefs create excellent conditions for both beginners and experienced divers. Many sites can be reached from the shore, making it easy to enjoy a short snorkel without booking a full-day excursion.

Look out for parrotfish, angelfish, turtles and bright coral formations around protected bays. Local dive centres offer lessons, guided trips and equipment hire, while boat excursions can take you to quieter reefs and Klein Curaçao, a small uninhabited island with striking beaches and excellent snorkelling.

Willemstad and Local Life

Willemstad is ideal for exploring at an unhurried pace. Walk across the Queen Emma floating pontoon bridge, browse the floating market and admire the historic architecture in Punda and Otrobanda. The city’s museums, cafés and small shops give you a chance to see more of Curaçao than its beaches.

Food is another enjoyable part of the experience, with Dutch, African, Latin American and Caribbean influences appearing on local menus. Try keshi yena, a hearty dish made with filled cheese, or sample fresh seafood and pastechi pastries. In the evening, waterfront restaurants and relaxed bars provide a pleasant place to watch the lights come on across the harbour.

Exploring the Island

Hiring a car is useful if you want to discover Curaçao beyond the main resorts. Drive through the island’s dry countryside, visit quiet western beaches and explore Shete Boka National Park, where waves crash into rugged coastal inlets. Christoffel National Park also offers walking trails and wide views for those who enjoy an active day.

Curaçao holidays suit couples, families and independent travellers who want sunshine with plenty to do. Whether you spend your time under the water, wandering colourful streets or finding a quiet cove, the island offers a relaxed Caribbean escape with its own strong character.
