Martinique Diving

Why Dive Martinique in February?

February is one of the best months for scuba diving in Martinique. The island enjoys warm, settled weather, with plenty of sunshine and generally calm seas that make boat trips comfortable. Water temperatures stay around 27°C, so most divers are happy in a light wetsuit or even a shorty.

Above the surface, February brings a welcome escape from colder European weather. Underwater, visibility can be excellent, often stretching 20 metres or more, giving you a clear view of reef fish, sponges and dramatic volcanic formations. Whether you are a confident diver or planning your first holiday dive, Martinique offers an easy-going Caribbean experience.

Reefs, Fish and Underwater Life

Martinique’s dive sites are varied enough to keep every day interesting. Around the southern coast, sheltered reefs and rocky pinnacles provide gentle conditions, while the west coast offers walls, drop-offs and fascinating volcanic scenery. Expect clouds of small reef fish, colourful sponges, moray eels and the occasional turtle moving calmly through the blue.

February is also a good time to look for larger visitors. Depending on conditions and your location, you may spot rays gliding over sandy seabeds or hear distant whale song offshore. Marine life is never guaranteed, of course, but local dive guides know where sightings are most likely and will help you get the most from each outing.

Where to Dive

Experienced divers should consider the waters around Saint-Pierre, on Martinique’s north-west coast. The area is known for its volcanic history and deeper sites, including the wrecks associated with the 1902 eruption of Mount Pelée. These sites are best suited to suitably qualified divers, with local operators able to advise on depth, currents and conditions.

For relaxed holiday diving, the south-west and southern coast are excellent choices. Areas near Anses-d’Arlet, Trois-Îlets and Sainte-Luce have accessible reefs, sheltered bays and dive centres offering guided trips, equipment hire and beginner courses. Staying nearby means less travel time and more opportunity to enjoy an early morning dive before lunch on the beach.

Planning Your Dive Holiday

Book with a reputable, professionally certified dive centre and check that your chosen operator has suitable February departure times. Bring proof of certification, a logbook if requested, and details of any medical conditions. It is sensible to arrange travel insurance that specifically covers scuba diving.

Allow at least 12 to 24 hours between your final dive and flying, depending on your dive schedule and advice from your instructor. When you are not underwater, enjoy Martinique’s Creole food, lively markets and scenic coastal roads. With warm water, good visibility and a friendly atmosphere, a February scuba diving holiday in Martinique is an excellent way to combine adventure with genuine island relaxation.
