Why Visit in January
January is an excellent time for a birdwatching holiday in Saint Martin and Sint Maarten. The weather is generally warm, bright and pleasantly dry, making it comfortable to spend long periods outdoors with binoculars and a field guide. Clearer conditions also make early-morning walks especially enjoyable, when the island is cooler and bird activity is at its peak.
These two names belong to one fascinating Caribbean island, with French Saint-Martin in the north and Dutch Sint Maarten in the south. Although compact, the island has a surprising mix of habitats, from salt ponds and mangroves to dry hillsides, gardens and quiet coastal bays. That variety gives birdwatchers plenty to explore during a January break.
