Guadeloupe Beaches

Why Choose Guadeloupe in July?

Guadeloupe beach holidays in July are ideal if you want sunshine, warm seas and plenty of freedom to explore. This French Caribbean island has a relaxed atmosphere, beautiful beaches and a wonderfully varied landscape, so it suits both easy-going beach days and more active escapes.

July is part of the island’s warmer, wetter season, with daytime temperatures usually around 29°C and sea temperatures that feel wonderfully inviting. Short tropical showers can arrive, but they often pass quickly, leaving the beaches fresh and bright. It is a good idea to pack light clothing, high-factor sun cream and a compact rain jacket.

The Best Beaches

Grande Anse des Salines near Sainte-Anne is one of the most popular places to spend a July afternoon. Its soft white sand and clear, shallow water make it especially appealing for swimming, while the nearby cafés and snack stalls mean you never have to go far for a cold drink or a light lunch.

For a more dramatic setting, head to Grande Anse beach at Deshaies on the western side of Basse-Terre. Palm trees frame the golden sand, and the surrounding hills give the bay a wonderfully natural feel. The water can be livelier here, so check local conditions before swimming, particularly after heavy rain.

Families and snorkellers may prefer the sheltered beaches around Le Gosier and Sainte-Anne. The calm water is excellent for a cooling dip, and early morning is often the best time for a peaceful swim before the breeze picks up.

Things to Do Beyond the Sand

Guadeloupe offers far more than beach time. On Basse-Terre, rainforest trails lead towards waterfalls and viewpoints in Guadeloupe National Park. A guided walk can help you discover the island’s plants and wildlife, while the cooler forest air makes an enjoyable change from the coast.

July is also a great month for boat trips. Sail across the lagoon, snorkel above colourful reefs or visit the nearby Îles des Saintes, where pretty waterfront streets and quiet coves make a memorable day out. Keep an eye on the forecast, as sea conditions can change during the wetter season.

In the evenings, enjoy fresh fish, grilled prawns, accras and tropical fruit at a local restaurant. Guadeloupe combines French cooking with Creole flavours, so meals are a genuine highlight of any holiday.

Planning Your July Holiday

Choose accommodation near Sainte-Anne or Le Gosier if easy access to beaches, restaurants and watersports is important. Deshaies is a lovely choice for a quieter stay surrounded by natural scenery. Hiring a car is worthwhile, particularly if you want to visit several beaches or explore both main islands at your own pace.

July can be a popular time for Caribbean travel, so booking flights and accommodation early gives you more choice. With warm weather, inviting beaches and plenty to see between swims, Guadeloupe is a friendly and rewarding destination for a summer beach holiday.
