Guadeloupe September

Caribbean Holidays, Guadeloupe September, Lush Guadeloupe rainforest in September, with tropical foliage, misty mountain slopes and a quiet walking trail

Why Visit Guadeloupe in September?

September is a rewarding time for a Guadeloupe nature holiday, especially if you enjoy warm weather, green landscapes and a quieter atmosphere. The islands are still firmly in the Caribbean summer, with daytime temperatures usually around 30°C and the sea pleasantly warm for swimming.

This is also one of the less busy periods for tourism, so popular beauty spots can feel wonderfully peaceful. You may find better value on accommodation and flights too, although September falls within the Atlantic hurricane season, so it is sensible to check forecasts and travel advice before setting off.

Rainforest Walks and Waterfalls

Guadeloupe’s two main islands offer very different scenery, and Basse-Terre is the place to head for dramatic nature. Its volcanic interior is covered by Guadeloupe National Park, where trails lead through towering rainforest, fern-filled valleys and misty mountain scenery.

September’s rainfall keeps the vegetation fresh and the waterfalls flowing. Walks to popular cascades such as the Cascade aux Écrevisses are relatively easy, while more ambitious routes explore the slopes of La Soufrière. Wear sturdy footwear, carry water and expect slippery paths after showers.

Beaches, Reefs and Marine Life

After a morning in the forest, Guadeloupe’s coastline provides an easy change of pace. Grande-Terre is known for pale sandy beaches and clear turquoise water, while Basse-Terre has attractive black-sand beaches shaped by its volcanic past.

September can bring excellent conditions for swimming and snorkelling between showers. The Cousteau Reserve, around the Pigeon Islets, is a favourite for seeing coral, tropical fish and sea turtles. Boat trips are available from the west coast, and calm bays such as Malendure make good starting points for beginners.

Exploring Beyond the Main Trails

A hire car is useful for discovering Guadeloupe at your own pace. Drive through sugar-cane country on Grande-Terre, stop at roadside fruit stalls and visit viewpoints overlooking the rugged coast. On Basse-Terre, winding roads reveal small villages, botanical gardens and secluded beaches.

Keep plans flexible in September, as a tropical shower can arrive quickly and conditions may change. Pack light clothing, sun cream, insect repellent and a waterproof layer. With a little preparation, this quieter month offers a memorable blend of rainforest, reef and relaxed Caribbean island life.
