Martinique Adventure

Caribbean Holidays, Martinique Adventure, A hiker walking through lush tropical forest on Mount Pelée in Martinique beneath a clear March sky

Explore Mount Pelée

March is an excellent time for a Martinique adventure holiday. The island is warm, bright and inviting, while the drier season makes it easier to enjoy the great outdoors. With volcanic landscapes, rainforest trails and a dramatic Caribbean coastline, Martinique offers plenty of ways to stay active between relaxed beach days.

One of the most memorable experiences is hiking Mount Pelée, the island’s famous volcano. Trails lead through changing scenery, from green forest and open slopes to wide views across the north of Martinique. The route can be demanding, so sensible footwear, plenty of water and an early start are important, particularly if you want to avoid the strongest heat.

Get on the Water

Martinique’s clear seas are made for adventure. Kayaking around the mangroves near Le François or Le Robert gives you the chance to paddle through calm channels, spot tropical birds and see a quieter side of the island. Guided trips are available and are a good choice if you would like local knowledge as well as an easy introduction to the area.

There is also excellent snorkelling around sheltered bays and offshore islets. In March, visibility is often good, with colourful fish and lively coral habitats close to the surface. Boat excursions can take you to some of the best swimming spots, while experienced divers can explore reefs, drop-offs and wrecks around the coast.

Try Canyoning

For a real thrill, head into the northern rainforest for a canyoning excursion. With a qualified guide, you may scramble over rocks, swim through natural pools and descend small waterfalls surrounded by dense vegetation. It is an energetic way to experience Martinique’s volcanic interior and is suitable for adventurous visitors who enjoy trying something different.

Conditions can vary after rainfall, so always use a reputable operator and follow their advice. The guides know the rivers and ravines well, and they will provide essential equipment such as helmets and harnesses. You will also need swimwear, secure shoes and a willingness to get wet.

Walk the Coast

Not every Martinique adventure needs to be strenuous. Coastal paths around the south of the island offer rewarding walks past coves, rocky headlands and fishing villages. The route near Sainte-Anne is especially appealing, with opportunities to pause for a swim or enjoy a Creole lunch after your walk.

March is a popular time to visit, so booking activities in advance is wise, especially for guided hikes and boat trips. Allow time to explore at your own pace, too. After a day of walking, paddling or swimming, there is nothing better than watching the sunset with fresh seafood and a cool drink, knowing that tomorrow brings another Caribbean adventure.
