November Scuba Diving

Caribbean Holidays, November Scuba Diving, Colourful coral reef and clear turquoise water around Saint Barthélemy, viewed by a scuba diver

Why Dive in November?

November is an excellent month for a scuba diving holiday in Saint Barthélemy. The busy summer heat has eased, the sea is usually warm and inviting, and underwater visibility can be impressive. It is also a lovely time to enjoy the island before the busiest festive-season period begins.

Water temperatures are generally comfortable in the high twenties Celsius, so many divers are happy with a lightweight wetsuit. Above the surface, expect bright sunshine mixed with the occasional tropical shower. These short showers rarely spoil a day on the water, and they can leave the island looking especially fresh.

What You Can See

Saint Barthélemy’s dive sites offer a rewarding mix of shallow reefs, rocky formations, sandy patches and dramatic drop-offs. November’s clear conditions may reveal schools of colourful reef fish moving above coral, while angelfish, parrotfish and butterflyfish are common sights. Look closely around crevices and overhangs for lobsters, moray eels and shy smaller creatures.

There is plenty for experienced divers to enjoy, but beginners are well catered for too. Sheltered sites can provide calm conditions for first dives, refresher sessions and relaxed underwater photography. Depending on the location and recent conditions, you may also encounter turtles, rays and larger pelagic visitors passing through the surrounding waters.

Planning Your Dive Trip

Local dive centres are the best source of up-to-date advice on visibility, currents and suitable sites. They know which reefs are most enjoyable on a particular day and can match trips to your experience level. Book ahead if you are travelling around the November school-holiday period, especially if you need equipment hire or a course.

Bring a recognised certification card if you are joining guided dives, and allow time for a proper briefing before entering the water. A surface interval is a good opportunity to relax on the boat, take in the coastline and enjoy the warm Caribbean air. Remember to use reef-friendly sun protection and avoid touching coral or marine life.

Beyond the Reefs

A November diving holiday does not have to be all about time underwater. Saint Barthélemy has beautiful beaches, scenic coastal roads and small bays that are ideal for swimming or a quiet afternoon. Gustavia is worth exploring for its harbour views, cafés, boutiques and relaxed French-Caribbean atmosphere.

After a morning dive, settle into a beachside lunch or watch the sunset from the shore. The island’s compact size makes it easy to combine diving with good food, gentle walks and plenty of unhurried time. For warm seas, varied marine life and a friendly island setting, Saint Barthélemy in November is a smart choice for your next scuba break.
