Grace Bay Glow

Underwater Colour

Smith’s Reef near Providenciales is one of the most accessible places to capture the underwater side of the islands. From the shore, snorkellers can often see colourful fish moving over coral and seagrass, with excellent visibility on a sunny January day. An action camera or waterproof phone case is useful for photographing this lively scene.

Keep your distance from coral and marine life, and avoid standing on the reef. The best images come from floating quietly and allowing fish to pass naturally through the frame. Early visits often mean calmer water and fewer people, giving you a better chance of clear photographs.

Long Bay Beach is known for its wide views and steady breeze, making it a favourite location for both beach photographs and kite-surfing action. At sunset, the open horizon creates a striking backdrop as the sky changes from blue to peach, pink and violet.

Stand back from the water and use a person, palm or kite surfer as a silhouette in the foreground. Take several photographs as the light changes, then put your phone away for a few minutes and enjoy the view properly.
