Why January Works
January is an excellent time for scuba diving in the Dominican Republic. The weather is generally warm and comfortable, with plenty of sunshine and less oppressive humidity than later in the year. Sea conditions are often calm, making it easier to enjoy boat trips and longer dives.
Water temperatures are usually inviting, so most divers are comfortable in a light wetsuit. Visibility can be very good, particularly around Punta Cana, Bayahibe and La Romana, where reefs, wrecks and rocky formations provide plenty to explore. It is a great month for both experienced divers and beginners who want to try diving in the Caribbean.
