Start with Trinidad’s Wetlands
January is an excellent month for a birdwatching holiday in Trinidad and Tobago. The weather is generally warm and pleasantly dry, with bright mornings that make it easier to explore forests, wetlands and coastal habitats. For many visitors, the trip begins in Trinidad, where an impressive range of birds can be seen within a surprisingly short distance of the capital.
A boat trip through the Caroni Swamp is one of the highlights. As the light softens towards evening, scarlet ibis fly back to their roosts, their vivid red feathers standing out against the green mangroves. You may also spot herons, egrets, cormorants and terns, while the quiet waterways give you time to enjoy the natural surroundings without rushing.
