Why Visit Bermuda in May?

May is an excellent time for Bermuda beach holidays. The island is warming up for summer, but it is not yet at its busiest, so you can enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere on the sand and around the coastal resorts. Days are generally sunny and pleasantly warm, making it easy to combine swimming, sightseeing and long lunches by the sea.

The Atlantic is also becoming invitingly mild, with clear water that is ideal for a refreshing dip. There is usually enough breeze to keep the heat comfortable, whether you are exploring the shoreline or settling down with a good book. For many visitors, May offers the right balance of warm weather, fewer crowds and a wide choice of things to do.

Bermuda’s Best Beaches

Horseshoe Bay is the beach most visitors picture when they think of Bermuda. Its curved stretch of soft pink sand is framed by rugged cliffs and bright blue water, creating a spectacular setting for swimming and photography. Arrive earlier in the day for a peaceful walk along the shore, then find a comfortable spot near the water.

For a quieter beach experience, head to Elbow Beach or Warwick Long Bay. Elbow Beach is backed by greenery and offers a lovely place to swim, while Warwick Long Bay feels more open and spacious, with plenty of room for an unhurried picnic. Jobson’s Cove is another appealing choice, with shallow, sheltered water that suits relaxed paddling and families.

Things to Do by the Sea

Bermuda in May is made for enjoying the water. Snorkelling trips reveal colourful fish around reefs and rocky coves, while glass-bottom boat tours offer a closer look without requiring you to get wet. Kayaking and paddleboarding are also enjoyable ways to explore calm stretches of coastline at your own pace.

When you want a break from the beach, hire a scooter or use local buses to discover the island’s pastel-coloured houses, historic forts and pretty harbours. The Railway Trail is particularly good for a gentle walk through peaceful countryside and along elevated coastal viewpoints. In the evening, enjoy fresh seafood at a waterfront restaurant as the light fades over the Atlantic.

Planning Your May Holiday

Pack light clothing, swimwear, sun cream and a light layer for breezier evenings. Comfortable shoes are useful for exploring rocky paths, forts and the island’s historic streets. Although May is often pleasantly dry, a compact waterproof jacket can be handy for the occasional shower.

Choose accommodation near the beach if your priority is easy access to the sea, or stay closer to Hamilton for restaurants, shopping and transport connections. Wherever you base yourself, Bermuda’s compact size makes it simple to visit several beaches during one holiday. With warm water, beautiful scenery and a friendly island atmosphere, May is a superb time to experience Bermuda’s coast.
