Bermuda Diving April

April Diving Conditions

April is an excellent time for a Bermuda scuba diving holiday. The island is warming up for summer, while the water is becoming more comfortable and visibility is often impressive. With fewer visitors than in the busiest summer months, dive boats can feel relaxed and uncrowded.

Sea temperatures are typically around 20°C, so most divers will be happiest in a 5mm wetsuit, with a hood or extra layer if you feel the cold. Above the surface, mild days and bright sunshine make it easy to combine diving with beach time, sightseeing and leisurely meals in Hamilton or St George’s.

Reefs And Wrecks

Bermuda is famous for its wreck diving, and April is a rewarding month to explore its underwater history. More than 300 ships have been lost around the island, creating a remarkable collection of dive sites. Depending on your experience, you might visit a shallow wreck suitable for relaxed exploration or a deeper site where advanced skills are needed.

Reefs add plenty of variety to a Bermuda diving itinerary. Expect limestone ledges, swim-throughs and walls populated by parrotfish, wrasse, angelfish and schools of smaller reef fish. Good local operators match sites to weather and ability, so beginners can build confidence while experienced divers enjoy more challenging routes.

What You May See

Underwater Bermuda has a calm, clear character that makes it enjoyable for photographers and first-time visitors alike. Visibility can often reach 20 metres or more, although conditions vary with wind, currents and recent weather. Look closely around wreck railings and reef crevices for lobsters, crabs, moray eels and shy blennies.

April can also bring encounters with larger marine life moving through the Atlantic. Turtles, rays and barracuda are possible, while seasonal whale activity may be spotted from the boat rather than beneath it. Every dive is different, which is part of the appeal of returning to Bermuda.

Planning Your Dive Trip

Book with a reputable Bermuda dive centre that provides well-maintained equipment, qualified guides and clear information about certification requirements. Many centres offer try dives, refresher sessions and guided wreck trips, so you do not need to be an expert to enjoy the island’s underwater attractions.

Allow time between dives and flying, and check your insurance before travelling. When you are not underwater, explore Bermuda’s pink-sand beaches, historic forts and quiet lanes by scooter or bus. April offers a particularly pleasant balance: comfortable sightseeing weather, excellent diving potential and a more peaceful island atmosphere.
