Beach Sunrises and Clear Water

September is a brilliant time to discover Guadeloupe’s most photogenic beaches. The islands are quieter after the main summer season, so you can often find a stretch of pale sand and clear Caribbean water that feels wonderfully private. Head out early for the best light, when the sea is smooth and the sky turns peach, pink and gold.

Grande Anse on Basse-Terre is one of the classic Guadeloupe Instagram hotspots, with a broad beach framed by palms and green hills. For a different mood, try the smaller coves around Deshaies or take a boat to one of the Îles des Saintes. A simple photograph of sunlit water, a colourful towel and your footprints in the sand can capture the relaxed pace of a September holiday.

Rainforest Waterfalls

Basse-Terre is the place to go when you want dramatic scenery away from the coast. The island’s volcanic interior is covered in rainforest, with misty trails, enormous leaves and waterfalls hidden among the trees. September can bring showers, but they keep the forest fresh and vibrant while adding atmosphere to your photographs.

The Carbet Falls are among Guadeloupe’s best-known natural sights, although there are plenty of smaller cascades and swimming spots to find with local advice. Wear sensible shoes, take a waterproof cover for your phone and allow time to enjoy the walk rather than rushing for a picture. A photograph of a waterfall surrounded by deep green vegetation will give your feed a real sense of place.

Colourful Island Streets

For an urban change of scene, explore Pointe-à-Pitre and the smaller towns around Guadeloupe. Brightly painted shutters, old Creole architecture, market stalls and tropical flowers create easy photo opportunities as you wander. The city’s markets are particularly lively, with baskets of spices, fruit and local snacks adding colour and character.

Visit in the morning when the streets are active but not too hot. Ask before photographing people, especially market traders, and take time to notice details such as painted doors or hand-lettered signs. These smaller images often tell the story of your holiday better than a carefully posed shot.

Golden-Hour Boat Trips

A boat trip is one of the easiest ways to see Guadeloupe from a new angle. Sail across the Grand Cul-de-Sac Marin, explore the coastline near Saint-François or take a day trip towards Marie-Galante, where beaches and sugar-cane landscapes provide a quieter backdrop. In September, warm evenings and softer light are ideal for relaxed photographs.

Plan to be on the water during the final hour before sunset. The low sun brings out the blues and greens of the sea, while the islands become silhouettes in the distance. Keep your camera secure, enjoy the breeze and leave space in your itinerary for an unplanned swim or a stop at a quiet little beach.
