May Beach Holidays

Caribbean Holidays, May Beach Holidays, Sunny Caribbean beach on Saint Martin and Sint Maarten in May, turquoise water, soft white sand, palm trees and a relaxed atmosphere

Why Visit in May

May is an excellent month for a Saint Martin and Sint Maarten beach holiday. The islands are warm, bright and relaxed, with plenty of sunshine for swimming, sailing and lazy days beside the sea. It is also a quieter time to visit than the busiest winter months, so beaches and restaurants often feel pleasantly unhurried.

Temperatures usually sit around the high twenties Celsius, while the sea is warm enough for long, comfortable swims. There may be a short tropical shower from time to time, but these often pass quickly and leave the air feeling fresh. Pack light clothing, sun cream and a light waterproof layer, and you will be ready for most days.

Beautiful Beaches

Saint Martin and Sint Maarten share one island, but each side has its own character and a superb choice of beaches. Orient Bay is a favourite for its broad sweep of sand, watersports and lively beach restaurants. For a more peaceful setting, Grand Case Beach offers calm water and a lovely view towards the surrounding islands.

On the Dutch side, Maho Beach is famous for its unusual location beneath the flight path, while Mullet Bay is ideal for a classic beach day with clear water and soft sand. Little Bay, Dawn Beach and Cupecoy Beach each offer something different, from sheltered swimming to dramatic coastal scenery. Hiring a car makes it easy to explore several beaches in one holiday.

Explore Island Life

A May holiday is about more than time on the beach. In Philipsburg, browse the shops along Front Street, walk beside the harbour and stop for a cool drink with a view of the bay. Marigot has a distinctly French feel, with a waterfront market, small boutiques and cafés serving fresh seafood, pastries and strong coffee.

The island is compact, yet its two national cultures make every day feel varied. You can enjoy a French lunch in Grand Case, listen to live music in a Dutch-side bar and watch the sunset from a quiet beach before dinner. Boat trips, snorkelling excursions and island cruises are also easy to arrange from several resorts.

A Relaxed Escape

Whether you are planning a romantic break, a family holiday or a trip with friends, Saint Martin and Sint Maarten offer an easy-going Caribbean experience. May brings warm weather, inviting beaches and fewer crowds, while the island’s restaurants and activities remain open and welcoming.

Choose a resort near your favourite beach, or stay somewhere central and explore both sides of the island. With beautiful coastline, excellent food and plenty to do at your own pace, a May beach holiday here can be as active or as restful as you wish.
