June Family Holidays

Why Choose June?

June is a wonderful time for a family holiday in the United States Virgin Islands. School holidays may not have started everywhere, so families can often enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere and a wider choice of accommodation. The weather is warm, the sea is inviting, and there is plenty of space on the beaches for children to play.

Expect daytime temperatures around 30°C, with cooling trade winds and occasional brief showers. These passing showers usually clear quickly, leaving bright sunshine behind. The islands are also just one hour behind the UK, making the journey and first few days easier for younger travellers.

Beaches and Sea Adventures

Families staying on St Thomas can choose from gentle, sheltered beaches such as Magens Bay, where the water is calm enough for confident children to paddle and swim. Pack a picnic, take shade under the trees and allow plenty of time for simple pleasures such as building sandcastles and spotting tropical fish close to shore.

For a more nature-focused day, take a boat or ferry to St John. Much of the island is protected as national parkland, and beaches including Trunk Bay are known for clear water and easy snorkelling. Older children can try spotting parrotfish and rays, while younger ones can enjoy a swim in the shallows with an adult nearby.

Exploring the Islands

A family holiday in the US Virgin Islands is about more than the beach. In Charlotte Amalie, colourful historic buildings, small shops and harbour views make for an enjoyable morning stroll. The 99 Steps are a fun landmark to see, although buggies may be easier to manage on some of the town’s steeper streets.

Boat trips are another excellent choice in June. A half-day cruise can include swimming stops, snorkelling equipment and lunch on board, while a quieter sailing trip gives families the chance to watch for turtles and seabirds. Ask your holiday adviser about trips suited to your children’s ages and swimming confidence.

Easy Family Days

The islands make it simple to balance activity with downtime. Choose a hotel or villa with a pool, plan one main outing each day and leave time for an unhurried lunch or an afternoon nap. Many restaurants are casual and welcoming, with familiar choices for children as well as fresh local seafood and Caribbean dishes for adults.

Sun protection is essential: bring high-factor sunscreen, hats, reusable water bottles and light clothing. If you are visiting during a shower, use the opportunity to explore a museum, browse the shops or enjoy a relaxed meal. With warm weather, beautiful beaches and plenty of family-friendly excursions, June is an excellent month to discover the United States Virgin Islands together.
