September Scuba Diving

Why Dive Aruba in September?

September is a rewarding time for scuba diving in Aruba, especially if you like warm water, good visibility and a relaxed atmosphere. The island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so diving trips can often run smoothly while the beaches and dive boats are noticeably quieter than during peak holiday months.

Sea temperatures are pleasantly warm, usually around 28°C, making a wetsuit optional for many divers. Above the surface, sunny weather and cooling trade winds create ideal conditions for combining morning dives with lazy afternoons on the sand, exploring the island or enjoying a sunset meal by the water.

Wrecks and Reef Life

Aruba is famous for its accessible wreck diving, and September gives you plenty of opportunities to explore these underwater landmarks. The SS Antilla, a large German freighter resting in shallow water, is one of the island’s signature sites. Its broken decks and open sections are now covered with sponges, coral and schools of tropical fish.

Experienced divers may also enjoy the Jane Sea, a deeper wreck with an impressive profile and abundant marine life. Reef sites around Arashi Reef, Boca Catalina and Malmok offer a different experience, with colourful fish, sea fans and rocky formations that are suitable for a range of abilities. Local guides know the best places to visit according to the day’s conditions.

Planning Your Dive Holiday

September is a good month to book a flexible scuba diving itinerary. Choose a reputable PADI or SSI dive centre that provides well-maintained equipment, qualified instructors and small-group trips where possible. If you are new to diving, Aruba is also an excellent place to complete an introduction or certification course in calm, warm water.

Most operators can arrange hotel transfers, equipment hire and boat dives, but it is wise to reserve popular courses and wreck trips before travelling. Bring proof of certification, allow time between your final dive and flying, and check whether your travel insurance covers scuba diving at your planned depth.

More Than Diving

One of the pleasures of a September scuba holiday in Aruba is how easy it is to fill the time between dives. Walk along Palm Beach, visit the colourful streets of Oranjestad or take a drive to the rugged scenery of Arikok National Park. The island’s compact size means you can see a lot without spending hours on the road.

After a day underwater, settle into a beach bar for a cool drink and watch the sun lower over the Caribbean. With warm seas, fascinating wrecks, welcoming dive centres and fewer crowds, Aruba in September offers an enjoyable balance of adventure and easy-going island time.
