July Scuba Diving

Why Dive Aruba in July?

Aruba is a brilliant choice for a scuba diving holiday in July, especially if you want warm water, reliable sunshine and plenty of underwater variety. The island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so its weather is generally settled, with sunny days and a refreshing breeze across the coast.

Sea temperatures are usually around 27°C, making a wetsuit optional for many divers. Visibility can be excellent, often reaching 20 to 30 metres, so you have a good chance of spotting reef fish, coral formations and larger marine life from a comfortable distance.

Wreck Diving Highlights

One of Aruba’s biggest attractions is its accessible wreck diving. The SS Antilla, a former German freighter, rests in relatively shallow water near the island’s north-west coast. Its broken hull, open compartments and colourful growth make it fascinating for experienced divers and confident beginners with suitable guidance.

Another popular site is the SS Pedernales, a smaller wreck with sections that are easy to explore. July’s calm conditions can make boat trips particularly enjoyable, while local dive operators choose sites according to the day’s wind, currents and experience levels.

Reefs and Marine Life

Aruba’s reefs offer much more than wrecks. Around sites such as Mangel Halto and Boca Catalina, divers may see angelfish, parrotfish, colourful wrasse and schools of smaller reef fish moving above the coral. Look carefully along rocky ledges and sandy patches, where moray eels, lobsters and rays can be surprisingly well camouflaged.

Sea turtles are also seen in Aruba’s waters, although sightings are never guaranteed. A relaxed pace and good buoyancy give you the best opportunity to notice wildlife without disturbing it. Night dives add another dimension, revealing octopus, crabs and nocturnal reef creatures.

Planning Your July Dive

July is a busy period for Caribbean holidays, so it is sensible to reserve dive trips and equipment hire before travelling. Aruba has dive centres offering shore dives, boat excursions, refresher sessions and courses for beginners, with instructors who know the local sites well.

Bring reef-safe sun cream, a reusable water bottle and a light cover-up for surface intervals. Drink plenty of water, protect yourself from the strong sun and allow the recommended time between diving and flying. With warm seas, clear visibility and memorable wrecks, scuba diving in Aruba in July can be one of the highlights of your holiday.
