Curaçao Diving June

Why Dive Curaçao in June?

June is a brilliant time to discover scuba diving in Curaçao. The island sits outside the main hurricane belt, so its warm, generally settled weather makes it a dependable choice for a Caribbean diving holiday. Sea temperatures are usually around 27°C, meaning most divers are comfortable in a lightweight wetsuit or even a shorty.

Above the surface, expect bright days, gentle trade winds and plenty of time to enjoy the island between dives. Visibility can be excellent, often stretching beyond 30 metres, although conditions naturally vary by site and weather. June also brings a relaxed atmosphere, with fewer crowds than the busiest winter months.

Reefs Full of Life

Curaçao is known for its accessible reefs and impressive variety of marine life. Expect to see clouds of brightly coloured reef fish, parrotfish, angelfish, barracuda and graceful rays. Turtles are also spotted around the island, particularly near quieter bays and healthy coral gardens.

Many dive sites begin close to shore, which makes Curaçao especially appealing if you enjoy setting your own pace. Experienced divers can look for walls, swim-throughs and deeper drop-offs, while newer divers can explore calm, shallow reefs with an instructor or guide. The island’s underwater scenery changes from one bay to the next, so every outing feels different.

Top Dive Areas

West Curaçao is a favourite for dramatic scenery and clear water. Sites around Westpunt, Playa Kalki and Mushroom Forest offer coral formations, sponges and reef slopes that suit a range of abilities. The west coast is also a good place to look for turtles and larger marine life.

Closer to Willemstad, popular locations such as Tugboat, Director’s Bay and Porto Mari combine easy access with rewarding underwater views. Tugboat is particularly memorable, with a small wreck lying in shallow water and attracting schools of fish. Some locations are ideal for shore diving, while local operators can take you to boat-only sites further offshore.

Planning Your June Trip

Book your dives with a reputable PADI or SSI centre and check whether equipment hire, boat trips and guided shore dives are included. June is often less busy, but reserving ahead is sensible if you need a particular course, private guide or specialist equipment. Bring reef-safe sun cream, a reusable water bottle and a light cover-up for surface intervals.

Allow time to enjoy Curaçao beyond the reef. Wander through Willemstad’s colourful waterfront, swim in sheltered coves and try the island’s lively local food scene. With warm water, varied dive sites and straightforward conditions, June offers an excellent balance of underwater adventure and easy Caribbean relaxation.
