Why Dive in February?

February is an excellent month for scuba diving in Curaçao. The island enjoys warm, generally dry weather, while the sea stays comfortably tropical, making it easy to spend long periods in the water. Daytime temperatures are usually around 28°C, and the cooling trade winds often make time on the beach pleasantly comfortable.

Underwater, visibility is often very good, with many sites offering clear views along walls, reefs and wrecks. February is also a popular time to escape colder European weather, so it is sensible to book flights, accommodation and guided dives well ahead. Once you arrive, the relaxed pace and compact size of Curaçao make it straightforward to combine diving with beaches, cafés and sightseeing.

What You Can See

Curaçao’s reefs are known for their variety rather than one single headline attraction. Expect vivid sponges, soft corals and healthy reef fish, with parrotfish, sergeant majors and angelfish commonly appearing around the rocks. Look closely and you may spot seahorses, nudibranchs, moray eels and shy octopus tucked into crevices.

February can also bring encounters with larger visitors passing through the Caribbean. Turtles are seen at several sites, particularly around sheltered bays and reef edges, although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed. A patient, observant approach rewards divers, and a local guide can point out small creatures that are easy to miss on a first visit.

One of Curaçao’s best-known underwater attractions is the Tugboat, a shallow wreck that has become covered in marine life. The site is close to shore, so it is easy to fit into a shorter diving day.

For a more dramatic experience, explore the island’s reef walls and drop-offs, where the seabed falls away into deep blue water. Klein Curaçao offers a memorable day trip with clear water, reefs and a remote island atmosphere. Shore diving is another major advantage, giving confident divers the freedom to plan independent entries while organised boat trips reach sites farther along the coast.

Planning Your February Trip

Pack a lightweight wetsuit or rash vest, reef-safe sun cream, a hat and plenty of water for surface intervals. February’s breeze can feel refreshing after a dive, so a light cover-up is useful on boats. If you are not yet certified, local dive centres offer beginner courses, refresher sessions and guided trips for different experience levels.

Choose accommodation near your preferred dive area, or hire a car if you want to explore several parts of the island. Allow time for Willemstad’s colourful waterfront, quiet coves and an evening meal featuring fresh seafood or local specialities.
