Guadeloupe Diving March

Caribbean Holidays, Guadeloupe Diving March, A scuba diver exploring colourful coral reefs and clear turquoise water off Guadeloupe in March

Why Dive Guadeloupe in March?

March is an excellent month for a scuba diving holiday in Guadeloupe. The weather is generally warm and settled, with plenty of sunshine, while the sea is invitingly clear and comfortable for long dives. It is also outside the busiest Christmas and New Year period, so dive centres and popular sites can feel pleasantly relaxed.

Guadeloupe’s underwater scenery is remarkably varied. Volcanic rock, coral gardens, sandy patches and dramatic drop-offs create habitats for turtles, reef fish and larger passing species. Whether you are a newly qualified diver or an experienced underwater photographer, March offers the conditions and variety to make each day at sea feel different.

Excellent Conditions Underwater

Water temperatures in March are usually around 26 degrees Celsius, making a wetsuit a comfortable choice for most divers. Visibility can be very good, often allowing you to appreciate the full shape of reefs, pinnacles and walls. Calm mornings are common, although local conditions can vary between Guadeloupe’s sheltered and more exposed coasts.

Many excursions leave early, when the surface is at its calmest and the light filtering through the water gives reefs a beautiful, natural glow. After a morning of diving, you can return to shore for a leisurely lunch, explore a beach or enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of a coastal village.

Explore the Cousteau Reserve

One of Guadeloupe’s best-known diving areas is the Cousteau Reserve, around the Pigeon Islands off the west coast of Basse-Terre. The reserve is protected for its rich marine life and striking underwater landscapes. Dive sites here may include coral-covered slopes, swim-throughs and rocky formations filled with small reef fish.

Keep an eye out for green turtles gliding calmly above the reef, as well as angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda and colourful sponges. Guides know the local sites well and can adapt the route to suit your experience, so the area works equally well for a first Caribbean dive and a memorable return visit.

Planning Your Diving Holiday

Choose accommodation near a recognised dive centre if you want easy access to boats and equipment. Les Saintes, Basse-Terre and the west coast are particularly appealing bases, depending on whether you prefer quiet island scenery, rainforest landscapes or a lively coastal setting. Booking dives in advance is sensible for March, especially if you need equipment hire or have specific sites in mind.

Bring proof of certification, a logbook if available and details of any recent diving experience. Leave space in your plans for weather changes and surface sightseeing: Guadeloupe is just as enjoyable above the water, with waterfalls, botanical gardens, Creole food and beautiful beaches. A March trip combining scuba diving with island exploration can be both adventurous and wonderfully easy-going.
