Why Dive Guadeloupe in February?

February is an excellent time for a scuba diving holiday in Guadeloupe. The islands are warm, generally dry and comfortably breezy, while the sea remains inviting for long days in the water. With good visibility and plenty of sunshine, it is easy to see why divers return to Guadeloupe year after year.

Water temperatures are usually around 26°C, so a light wetsuit is normally all you need. February also falls within the island’s popular dry season, although brief showers can still pass through, particularly in the greener areas. Sea conditions are often calm enough for enjoyable boat trips and relaxed shore dives.

Underwater Highlights

Guadeloupe offers a rewarding variety of dive sites, from shallow reefs and rocky ledges to dramatic walls and sheltered bays. Around Basse-Terre, the Jacques Cousteau Underwater Reserve near Bouillante is the best-known area, with coral gardens, sponges and schools of bright reef fish.

Look closely and you may spot hawksbill turtles, moray eels, trumpetfish and lobsters hiding among the rocks. Larger marine life can also pass by, including rays and, at the right time of year, humpback whales travelling through Caribbean waters. Every dive feels different, which makes the area suitable for both first-time visitors and experienced divers.

Where to Stay and Dive

Bouillante and the west coast of Basse-Terre are convenient bases for diving in February. Local centres offer guided trips, equipment hire and introductory sessions, while many can arrange transfers from nearby accommodation. Staying close to the coast means you can be in the water soon after breakfast and back in time for a relaxed Creole lunch.

For a wider island experience, consider combining a few nights on Basse-Terre with time on Grande-Terre. Basse-Terre is lush and mountainous, with waterfalls and rainforest trails, while Grande-Terre is known for sandy beaches, lively towns and open coastal scenery. A hire car makes it easier to explore between dives.

Planning Your February Trip

Book dive excursions and accommodation ahead of time, especially around school holidays and the island’s Carnival celebrations. Choose a reputable, professionally run dive centre and bring certification details if you are qualified. If you are new to scuba diving, ask about a beginner-friendly discovery dive in a sheltered location.

Allow time between diving and flying, follow your instructor’s safety advice and protect the reef by avoiding contact with coral or marine life. With warm water, excellent scenery above and below the surface, and a friendly island atmosphere, February is a superb month to discover scuba diving in Guadeloupe.
