Guadeloupe Diving April

April Diving Conditions

April is an excellent month for scuba diving in Guadeloupe. The dry season is still under way, bringing warm days, plenty of sunshine and generally calm seas around the islands. Water temperatures usually sit at a comfortable 27 to 28°C, so many divers are happy with a light wetsuit.

Visibility can be very good, often allowing you to look well ahead as you explore reefs, rocky pinnacles and gentle underwater slopes. April also falls outside the busiest peak periods, which means dive boats and popular sites may feel relaxed rather than crowded. It is a great time for both experienced divers and beginners wanting to enjoy their first Caribbean dive.

Where To Dive

Guadeloupe offers some of the Caribbean’s most varied diving, particularly around the western coast of Basse-Terre. The Cousteau Reserve, near Bouillante, is the best-known area and includes protected waters around the Pigeon Islets. Expect clear conditions, colourful sponges, coral gardens and plenty of fish life.

Local dive centres also visit walls, caves and reefs further along the coast, with sites suited to different abilities. Shallow reefs are ideal for relaxed sightseeing and training dives, while deeper drop-offs provide more excitement for qualified divers. Depending on conditions, you could see angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda, turtles and rays during the same holiday.

Marine Life Encounters

One of the joys of diving in Guadeloupe is the variety of marine life found close to shore. Sea turtles are regular visitors, particularly around reef areas with healthy seagrass and coral. They often glide past calmly, giving divers a memorable view without needing to chase or disturb them.

The reefs are alive with smaller details too. Look closely for bright wrasse, damselfish, trumpetfish and tiny creatures sheltering among sponges and sea fans. Dive guides know where to find the most interesting activity and can point out camouflaged animals that are easy to miss at first.

Planning Your Dive Holiday

Book with a reputable, professionally registered dive centre and check what is included before you travel. Most operators provide tanks and weights, while you may need to bring or hire a mask, fins, wetsuit and computer. If you have not dived recently, a refresher session is a sensible way to regain confidence.

April is also a pleasant month for combining diving with time on land. Stay near Bouillante for easy access to the Cousteau Reserve, or explore more of Basse-Terre’s rainforest, waterfalls and quiet beaches between dives. With warm water, welcoming dive centres and superb underwater scenery, Guadeloupe makes a rewarding choice for an April scuba diving holiday.
