Why Dive Guadeloupe in June?

June is an excellent time to enjoy scuba diving in Guadeloupe. The sea is warm, visibility is often impressive and the underwater world is full of colour, from bright reef fish to dramatic volcanic rock formations. With fewer visitors than during the busiest winter months, dive sites can feel relaxed and unhurried.

Guadeloupe’s distinctive shape means you can choose between different underwater experiences. The western island of Basse-Terre is particularly appealing for divers, with sheltered bays, healthy reefs and access to the famous Cousteau Reserve. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced diver, local centres can help you find suitable sites and organise equipment, guides and boat trips.

The Cousteau Reserve

The Cousteau Reserve, around the Pigeon Islets near Bouillante, is the best-known scuba diving area in Guadeloupe. Its protected waters combine coral gardens, underwater pinnacles and sloping reefs, creating habitats for angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda and turtles. The scenery changes quickly as you move from shallow reef to deeper walls and rocky outcrops.

June is a comfortable month for spending time on the water, and many trips leave in the morning when conditions are usually calm. A guided dive gives you the chance to learn more about the reef and spot smaller creatures that are easy to miss, including moray eels, seahorses and colourful nudibranchs. Snorkelling is also rewarding here, so mixed groups can enjoy the same excursion.

Choosing a Dive Centre

Guadeloupe has reputable dive operators in areas such as Bouillante, Deshaies, Sainte-Rose and around Grande-Terre. When choosing a centre, look for qualified instructors, well-maintained equipment and small groups where possible. It is sensible to check what is included in the price, as boat fees, equipment hire and certification costs may be listed separately.

Beginners can usually start with a short introduction or a beginner’s course in calm water, while certified divers can arrange guided reef dives, deeper trips and night dives. Tell the centre about your experience before booking, especially if you have not dived recently. A good operator will match the itinerary to your confidence and current certification.

Planning Your June Diving Holiday

Pack reef-safe sun cream, a light rash vest, swimwear and a dry bag for boat excursions. Although the sea is warm, a wetsuit is normally provided or recommended for comfort, particularly on longer dives. Leave enough time between your final dive and your flight, following the advice of your dive centre.

When you are not underwater, explore Basse-Terre’s rainforest, waterfalls and coastal villages, or spend a quiet afternoon on a sandy beach. June can bring short tropical showers, but these rarely spoil a full day. With warm water, varied dive sites and plenty to see ashore, Guadeloupe offers a memorable Caribbean diving holiday for both newcomers and experienced divers.
