Bermuda Walking Holidays

Walk Bermuda’s Coast

Bermuda walking holidays are an excellent way to experience the island at a relaxed pace. Away from the busy roads, you can follow quiet lanes, coastal paths and old railway routes while enjoying sea views, colourful houses and the gentle island atmosphere.

The scenery changes quickly as you walk. One moment you may be beside clear turquoise water, and the next you are passing palms, hibiscus and historic cottages painted in soft pastel shades. Bermuda is compact enough for rewarding day walks, yet varied enough to keep every outing interesting.

The Railway Trail

The Bermuda Railway Trail is one of the island’s best-known walking routes. Following the trackbed of the former railway, it crosses different parts of Bermuda and offers a mixture of woodland, open countryside, bridges and glimpses of the coast.

You can walk shorter sections rather than attempting the whole route, making it easy to suit your plans and fitness level. Some stretches are shaded and peaceful, while others open out towards wide ocean views. Comfortable shoes, drinking water and sun protection are essential, particularly during the warmer months.

Coastal Paths And Beaches

For classic Bermuda scenery, choose a coastal walk. Paths around the South Shore lead towards famous beaches, secluded coves and rocky viewpoints, with the Atlantic stretching out in front of you. Early morning is especially pleasant, when the air is cooler and the shoreline is quiet.

Some routes combine walking with time on the sand, so you can cool off with a swim or stop for a picnic. Keep an eye on the sea conditions and take care near cliff edges, as parts of the coast can be uneven. A small backpack with water, snacks and a light cover-up will make the day more comfortable.

History On Foot

Walking is also a wonderful way to discover Bermuda’s history. In St George’s, narrow streets, old churches and preserved buildings create an atmospheric setting for an unhurried stroll. You can pause at small squares, browse local shops and learn how the island developed as an important Atlantic port.

Hamilton offers a different experience, with colourful streets, galleries, cafés and historic landmarks close together. Guided walks can add useful local insight, but independent travellers will find plenty to explore with a map and a little curiosity.

Planning Your Walk

Bermuda’s climate makes walking possible for much of the year, although spring and autumn are often particularly comfortable. Start early in summer, carry plenty of water and allow time for breaks. Public transport can help you reach many trailheads, while taxis are useful when a route finishes away from your accommodation.

Whether you prefer a gentle beach stroll, a countryside ramble or a day discovering historic towns, Bermuda walking holidays offer an easy-going way to see more of the island. You return from each walk with a better sense of the landscape, the local character and the calm pace that makes Bermuda so memorable.
