Diving Dominica

Dominica is one of the Caribbean’s most rewarding destinations for scuba diving. Champagne Reef is one of the island’s best-known dive locations. Warm volcanic bubbles rise from the seabed, creating a natural fizz around divers and snorkellers. Dominica’s reefs are alive with colour and movement. Look out for angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda, moray eels and clouds of smaller reef fish. Turtles are also seen in local waters, and patient divers may spot seahorses, frogfish or unusual creatures hiding among the sponges.

The island’s protected marine environment helps support a healthy underwater ecosystem. Dives are often as rewarding for keen photographers as they are for anyone who simply enjoys observing nature. Planning Your Dive Trip

Local dive operators offer guided boat dives, shore dives, equipment hire and introductory experiences. They know the sites well and can match each outing to your experience and the day’s sea conditions. If you are travelling with non-divers, many locations also work well for snorkelling or a relaxed beach day.

Pack reef-safe sun protection, an underwater camera and a light jacket for boat journeys. Conditions are generally warm throughout the year, although visibility and currents can vary, so listen to your guide and avoid rushing between dives.
