January Beach Holidays

Why Visit in January

January is one of the best times to enjoy a Saint Barthélemy beach holiday. The island is warm, bright and pleasantly breezy, with daytime temperatures usually sitting around 28°C. After the wetter months, the weather is generally settled, making it easy to plan long beach days, boat trips and relaxed evenings outdoors.

This is also a popular season, so the island has a lively but polished atmosphere. Gustavia’s restaurants and boutiques are open and busy, while the smaller beaches still offer peaceful corners for swimming and reading. Book early if you have particular accommodation or travel dates in mind, especially around the New Year period.

Beautiful Beaches

Saint Barthélemy has a remarkable variety of beaches for such a small island. Gouverneur is a favourite for its wide sweep of pale sand, clear water and undeveloped surroundings. It is ideal for a quiet morning swim, although you should bring drinks and snacks because there are no beach facilities.

For an easy-going day beside calm water, head to St Jean Beach. The sand stretches on either side of the famous rocky outcrop, and the shallow sea is inviting for a quick dip. Saline Beach feels more secluded, with a natural setting that suits travellers looking for space and a slower pace.

Sea and Island Adventures

January’s reliable conditions are excellent for getting out on the water. A sailing trip can take you along the coast to hidden coves, while a boat excursion may include swimming, snorkelling and the chance to spot turtles. The water is usually warm enough for a comfortable swim, and the trade winds add a refreshing lift without making the day feel cool.

On land, explore the island’s winding roads and viewpoints by car or scooter. Stop at Colombier for a rewarding walk to one of the island’s most secluded beaches, or visit Lorient and Corossol for a glimpse of local life beyond Gustavia. Distances are short, but allow extra time for steep roads and scenic stops.

Evenings in Gustavia

Gustavia is especially enjoyable after a day in the sun. Stroll around the harbour to see yachts catching the last light, then choose from French, Caribbean and international menus. Fresh seafood, grilled fish and crisp salads are natural choices, while the island’s bakeries are perfect for a relaxed breakfast or picnic supplies.

Pack smart-casual clothes for restaurants, along with comfortable sandals and good sun protection for the daytime. January is a wonderful month for combining excellent beaches with fine food, easy island exploring and the warm, welcoming character of Saint Barthélemy.
