An October holiday combining the United States Virgin Islands with another Caribbean destination is a brilliant way to enjoy more than one island in a single trip. You can begin in the USVI, where English is widely spoken and the pace is wonderfully relaxed, then continue to a neighbouring country for a change of scenery, culture and coastline.

St Thomas makes an easy starting point for a multi-country Caribbean holiday. Its capital, Charlotte Amalie, is known for colourful streets, historic buildings and a lively waterfront, while the island’s elevated roads lead to excellent viewpoints across the harbour and nearby cays.

For a classic beach day, head to Magens Bay, where calm turquoise water is framed by green hills. St John offers a quieter, more natural experience, with much of the island protected as national parkland. Pairing the USVI with another Caribbean country lets you create a holiday that feels varied without becoming complicated. The British Virgin Islands are a natural choice, especially if you enjoy sailing, snorkelling and quiet coves. Tortola has attractive beaches and scenic roads, while Virgin Gorda is home to the remarkable Baths, where huge granite boulders shelter pools beside the sea.

Alternatively, consider Puerto Rico for a livelier contrast. From the USVI, you can combine island beaches with the historic streets of Old San Juan, where colourful buildings, forts and excellent restaurants bring a distinctly urban Caribbean experience. Whichever route you choose, check ferry and flight schedules carefully and allow some flexibility for weather.
