Birdwatching in August
August is a rewarding time for a birdwatching holiday in the BES islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba. The islands offer very different habitats within a relatively compact area, from Bonaire’s salt pans and cactus-covered hills to Saba’s cool, forested slopes. Warm weather, bright light and a relaxed pace make it easy to spend your days looking for birds without feeling rushed.
Expect tropical sunshine, occasional showers and plenty of opportunities for early-morning walks. Birds are most active soon after dawn, when the air is cooler and the landscape is quieter. A local guide can help you identify calls, find less obvious species and understand the importance of each island’s protected habitats.
