St Jean Beach is one of the island’s best-known stretches of sand. It sits close to shops, restaurants and hotels, making it convenient for a relaxed day by the sea. The water is usually inviting and calm, while the beach’s central setting means you can easily combine swimming with lunch or a little browsing.

For a more secluded experience, head to Gouverneur Beach. Its broad sweep of pale sand and clear blue water feels wonderfully untouched, with fewer facilities and plenty of space to settle in.
