August Instagram Spots

Maho Beach Magic

For a holiday photo that instantly says Saint Martin and Sint Maarten, head to Maho Beach. This famous stretch of sand sits beside Princess Juliana International Airport, where arriving aircraft pass remarkably close overhead. In August, the bright sea, warm sand and lively beach atmosphere create an excellent setting for Instagram.

Keep a safe distance from the runway fence and follow local advice, but do have your camera ready. The best images often capture the contrast between a huge plane, turquoise water and people enjoying the beach below. Visit earlier in the day for softer light, or stay into the afternoon when the beach feels especially sociable.

Marigot Market Colours

French Saint Martin’s capital, Marigot, is ideal for relaxed, colourful photographs. Wander through the market and you will find baskets of tropical fruit, local spices, handmade souvenirs and stalls serving Caribbean favourites. The waterfront adds boats, palms and open sea views to the background.

August light can be strong, so early morning is a comfortable time to explore and take pictures. Look for small details as well as wide views: painted shutters, fishing boats, fresh produce and a plate of warm pastries. After browsing, climb towards Fort Louis for a broader view across Marigot Bay and the nearby islands.

Orient Bay Sunsets

Orient Bay is one of the island’s most recognisable beaches, with a long sweep of pale sand and clear water. It is a natural choice for beach photography, especially when the sun begins to drop and the sea takes on deeper shades of blue. Beach cafés and watersports also provide plenty of atmosphere for informal holiday shots.

For the most natural images, photograph the shoreline from a quieter section and include details such as footprints, umbrellas or paddleboards. August can bring short tropical showers, but these often pass quickly and may leave behind dramatic clouds. If the weather clears at sunset, you could capture a memorable sky reflected across the wet sand.

Simpson Bay Views

Simpson Bay offers one of the best all-round viewpoints in Sint Maarten. From the hills above the bay, you can frame yachts on the water, green slopes and the busy marina in one photograph. The scene changes throughout the day, making it worth returning at a different time.

Try shooting around sunset and stay for blue hour, when the first harbour lights appear. Use a wide view for the landscape, then zoom in on boats and waterfront buildings for a varied feed. A light breeze is common in August, so secure hats, phones and small cameras when taking pictures near exposed viewpoints.

Pinel Island Escape

For a quieter island feel, take a short boat trip to Pinel Island. The shallow water around the island is beautifully clear, while the small beaches and laid-back restaurants make it easy to spend several hours taking photographs without rushing. Capture a boat ride, a seafood lunch or the view back towards Saint Martin.

Pack a waterproof phone pouch and plenty of sun protection, as the August heat can feel intense on the water. A morning visit usually brings calmer conditions and fresh, bright colours. Keep the island looking its best by avoiding single-use plastic and taking all rubbish back with you.
