Why Visit in February?

February is an excellent month for an adventure holiday in the BES islands: Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba. The weather is generally warm, sunny and pleasantly dry, with daytime temperatures ideal for exploring rather than simply sitting by the pool. Sea breezes keep coastal walks comfortable, while the clear water is perfect for discovering the islands beneath the waves.

These three Dutch Caribbean islands each offer a different kind of adventure. Bonaire Underwater

Bonaire is one of the Caribbean’s best destinations for diving and snorkelling, and February conditions are often superb. Sint Eustatius Trails

Sint Eustatius, often known as Statia, is a rewarding choice for travellers who like history with their outdoor activities. The slopes of The Quill, a dormant volcano, lead through green forest to a dramatic crater. The walk can be warm, so start early, carry plenty of water and use a local guide if you want extra insight into the island’s plants and wildlife.

Down by the coast, the capital Oranjestad has atmospheric ruins, old warehouses and Fort Oranje overlooking the sea. You can combine a morning hike with a heritage walk and a relaxed lunch, creating a varied day without long journeys between attractions.

Saba for Walkers

Saba is small but wonderfully rugged. Mount Scenery rises above the island, and the trail to its summit passes through lush rainforest, twisting roots and misty vegetation. The route is challenging in places, but the changing scenery and views across the Caribbean make it a memorable experience for confident walkers.

Allow time to explore the island’s narrow lanes and distinctive villages as well. Local guides can explain Saba’s nature and culture, while boat trips around the coast offer a chance to see cliffs, seabirds and excellent snorkelling spots from the water.
